Instagram automated DM rules you should know

In short: Automated DMs on Instagram may only be sent to people who interacted with your account first. They must follow Meta's messaging window, be relevant to that interaction, and never pretend to be human when asked. Meta's official rules can change, so always check Meta's latest policies.

1. Only for people who interact first

Automated messages may be sent in response to an interaction, such as a comment on your post, a story reply, a follow, or a DM they sent you. Sending mass DMs to people who have never interacted with you is not allowed.

2. Stay within the messaging window

Meta applies a standard time window for replying to messages, with special rules for certain message tags. Outside that window, promotional messages may not be delivered. autoDM runs automations within the limits Meta sets.

3. Messages must be relevant

A DM should relate directly to the interaction that triggered it. Using a comment as an excuse to send an unrelated promo can violate Meta's policies and the Acceptable Use Policy of autoDM.

4. Respect requests to stop

If someone asks you to stop, don't send follow-up messages. Give people an easy way to reach a human.

5. Be transparent about automation

Don't claim to be human if a subscriber asks whether they're talking to a bot. For AI-powered replies, we recommend a short notice at the start of the conversation.

6. Prohibited content

• Spam, scams, and get-rich-quick claims.
• Content that is illegal, harmful, or violates other people's rights.
• Offering rewards for likes, follows, or comments in ways Instagram prohibits.

7. Use the official API
